So, you might not know this about me, but I love video games, and I play — a lot. I’ve wanted to write about it; but every time I do, I end up with these novel-length explanations and in-depth descriptions of the world of video games. Honestly, no one wants to read that.
There’s this “Tag” going around Twitter where you answer questions about your gaming habits. The premise is that for every “like” you answer a question, but I thought it would be a fun way to bring up my love of gaming with out entangling myself in long, tedious explanations. So, here goes.
1. Very first video game?
The first one I played: I don’t remember. I have an Uncle only a few years older than me who was into computers. He owned an Atari — this was the late eighties or early nineties — back when you played video games on these…
I played all the classic ones, Pac-Man, Tetris, Pong and Super Mario of course.
The first game I owned: was Super Mario World and a Jungle Book game I got with the Super Nintendo my family gave me for Christmas. I think I got it the same year it was released in Sweden, which was 1992, so I was ten. My Super Nintendo was the first and only console I’ve ever owned.
2. Your favorite character?
I can’t, I can not pick one! Let’s do this according to Game Trilogy…
From the Mass Effect Trilogy:
Commander Sheppard: because she (or he, but mostly she) is so damn bad ass, and the voice acting is spectacular. She’s a kick-ass female protagonist who doesn’t take shit from anyone.
Garrus Vakarian: because I want to marry him and in my reality, he and Shepard are touring the universe on the Normandy and living happily ever after.
Legion: makes me feel all maternal and I cry like a baby every time he ask’s:
From the Dragon Age Trilogy (so far)
Isabella: she’s a hot pirate, Nuf said.
Zevran: is a scoundrel; he’s a thief, assassin and wonderful.
Iron Bull: he’s got horns!
Hawke: is another bad ass female (or male) protagonist. Also, she’s having a sexy romance with a hot pirate chick.
The Witcher Trilogy
Geralt of Rivia: he’s just… YUMMY! Ehhh… he’s also a kick-ass mutant monster slayer with cat eye’s and serious snark—but also, YUMMY!
3. A game that is underrated?
Mass Effect Andromeda it had some technical difficulties at the release. It’s dumb because a short delay would have been enough to fix that, but it’s been patched, and the game did not deserve all the shit it got. It’s a solid 8/10 game, and I’ve had lots of fun with it.
4. Your guilty pleasure game?
Probably Crusader Kings 2. I’m epically bad at these kinds of strategy games; I don’t have the patience. I always end up cheating like crazy and with two clicks I’m Queen of the whole world and we all worship Odin.
5. Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)
I wish I were Yennifer of Vengerberg because if was, I could do this!
6. Most annoying character?
Again, I can’t choose.
From Mass Effect, it’s a tie between Kaidan and Ashley, ugh!
From Dragon Age, it’s definitely Sebastian — what a waste of DLC money.
I get annoyed just looking at them…
7. Favorite game couple?
Shepard & Garrus
8. Best Soundtrack?
9. Saddest game scene?
10. Best game play?
The Witcher 3 or Mass Effect: Andromeda
11. Gaming system of choice?
PC with a keyboard and mouse.
12. A game everyone should play?
Mass Effect 2” or The Witcher 3
13. A game you’ve played more than five times?
The original Mass Effect trilogy.
14. Current or most recent gaming wallpaper?
15. Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now
16. Game with the best cut scenes?
17. Favorite Antagonist?
The Illusive Man from Mass Effect 2 & 3 – I hate that guy!
18. Favorite protagonist?
Female Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect trilogy or Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher trilogy.
19. Picture of a game setting you wished you lived in
Toussaint from The Witcher 3 — Blood and Wine expansion
20. Favorite genre?
RPG’s (Role Playing Games) in a fantasy or Sci Fi setting, preferably big, open-world games that take hundreds of hours to finish.
But also more indie survival games like The Long Dark or State of Decay.
It depends on my mood if I want a story and emotions, or to just relax and empty my head.
21. Game with the best story.
The Witcher trilogy has a great story, but it’s a bit unfair to compare it to other’s since the games are based on already existing books by a great, award winning author. The writers of the game trilogy did a fantastic job, but they didn’t actually create the universe or the characters from scratch, it had already been done.
As for games not based on books, I’ll say the original Mass Effect trilogy, but only because the Dragon Age story isn’t finished yet — I might change my mind after Dragon Age 4.
22. A game sequel which disappointed you?
Ceasar 4 – The game was technically much better than “Ceasar 3,” but it felt soulless, and I got bored almost immediately.
23. A game you think had the best graphics or art style
For graphics, it’s the Witcher 3. I loved the graphics in Dragon Age: Inquisition as well, but there was something about the colors in The Witcher ” that I really loved.
As for art style, I really like the art in The Long Dark, it’s so gorgeous and atmospheric.
24. Favorite classic game?
Well, a classic game can mean a lot of things, but if we’re talking older games, I’d say, based on hours played, either Ceasar 3 or The Sims 1.
25. A game you plan on playing?
I have Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor waiting on Steam account. Obviously, I’m waiting impatiently for Dragon Age 4, but that’ll take a while.
I’m thinking about buying a PlayStation 4 because I want to play: The last of us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted and Destiny, but I haven’t decided… I’m a PC girl, buying a console hurts a little.
26. Best voice acting?
Definitely Jennifer Hale as the female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 1-3.
27. Most epic scene ever?
There’s too many… the most brilliant one is the “Drinking scene at Kaer Morhen” in Witcher 3 I laugh so hard, every time!
28. Favorite game developer?
Bioware and CD Project Red.
29. A game you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving?
About 10 years ago I bought Dragon Age: Origins on a whim when it was on sale and super cheap late one night. I had no idea what it was and hadn’t really played RPG’s before that. Here we are, ten years and a few thousand gaming hours later…
30. Your favorite game of all time?
